Mental Health Coordinator

Hiring Range: $17.00-$17.50/hr DOE

Job Description:

Coordinate, oversee, and manage mental health services for the Catholic Community Services Migration and Refugee Services Program. Using appropriate cultural proficiency, educate refugee clients about mental health and mental health resources. Refer clients to available services with the ultimate goal of clients' mental healthcare self-sufficiency. Work with community partners and service providers to help clients learn to navigate and access available resources.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Administer mental health assessments for all eligible clients after their initial health screening.
    1. 3-month assessment for adults and youth (14 years old and older) and children 4-13 years old).
    2. 1-year assessment for adults, youth, and children.
  2. Refer clients to the appropriate mental health provider and coordinate transportation and interpretation for their intake. Provide individualized services to clients who turn down referrals and work with them to identify barriers and alternative treatment options.
  3. Review the mental health assessments performed during the initial health screening.
  4. Supervision of the gender-based violence grogram and specialist.
  5. Provide one-on-one and group mental health education to refugee clients.
  6. Provide ongoing training for medical interpreters and other CCS staff about mental health and trauma-informed, strength-based social services.
  7. Develop the Mental Health program to provide the best services to clients and utilize all available funding. Where appropriate, create new initiatives in coordination with the Refugee Health Services Supervisor.
  8. Manage all record-keeping aspects of mental health services including claim forms, case note, and billing. Work closely with the Utah Department of Health for monthly reporting and billing.
  9. Attend monthly coordination meetings with mental health partners in the community to follow up on client's progress and address any gaps in their services.
  10. Reach out to refugee communities and other service-providers to seek out alternative community support networks and culturally appropriate interventions.
  11. Assist with case file audit and compliance.
  12. Assist the Refugee Health Services Supervisor with other Health Services Program responsibilities.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.


Work Environment – inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc.

  1. This position is in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel.


Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting and driving

  1. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
  2. This role includes driving locally to apartment complexes and meetings.

  1. Understanding of the challenges that confront refugees and common mental health conditions present in the populations CCS serves
  2. High degree of comfort with relationship building and networking in the community
  3. Strong listening skills and the ability to identify a broad spectrum of needs
  4. Patience and the ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds to ensure they understand mental health care in the United States, the resources available to them, and how to access them
  5. Personal qualities such as integrity, compassion, empathy, courtesy, dignity, and respect towards all clients and staff while assisting clients to accept and change their situations, as appropriate
  6. Ability to foster trust and confidence in others
  7. Proficiency in oral and written communication, second language preferred
  8. Ability to function as a member of a team and in concert with other staff, and outside agencies
  9. Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  10. Works independently in safe and appropriate manner
  11. Demonstrates both problem solving and problem prevention skills
  12. Proficiency in computer skills to maintain financial data, spreadsheets, database, scheduling, and e-mail in Microsoft Office 365


Education, training and or experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Work, Public Health, Psychology or Counseling or equivalent experience required
  2. Experience with data collection, compilation, and analysis
  3. Mental health background preferred
  4. Experience serving multicultural and diverse populations preferred
  5. Minimum of one-year supervisory experience


Background Screen/BCI requirement

  1. Must pass BCI/FBI background check


Licenses, certifications and credentials

  1. Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety and auto insurance requirements.


Position status and expected schedule

  1. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and non-exempt.
  2. The general schedule will be worked Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
